Intruding on a flock of Oviraptors is crazy. They are fierce rivals, twice the size of White Tip. Instead of teeth, these meat-eaters have wicked beaks and equally formidable claws.
— The narrator, describing Oviraptor

Oviraptor is a genus of oviraptorid theropod dinosaur from the Late Creaceous of Mongolia that appears in "White Tip's Journey". Various Oviraptor are antagonists throughout. In the epsode, they are considered fierce rivals of Velociraptor.

"White Tip's Journey"[]

Oviraptor are first seen doing a mating ritual, with two males getting into a small squabble. The younger male ends up losing, and takes its anger out on White Tip, who had been watching nearby.

Another pair later appear feasting on a clutch of abandoned Protoceratops eggs before being interrupted by a pack of Velociraptor, which they then proceed to scare off. Another Oviraptor ruins the Velociraptor's hunt, killing and eating the Shuvuuia they were chasing.

Its final appearance is when a pair of females are guarding four hatchlings from Blue Brow and his pack. The Velociraptor pack manages to kill two of the young before escaping.

Trivia[]

  • Since Oviraptor is believed to have included eggs in its diet, just not their own, it's not surprising the two Broken Hand and his pack found were feasting on Protoceratops eggs (the first Oviraptor found was shielding a batch which were mistaken for Protoceratops, whose eggs were discovered first). Although it wouldn't be abnormal for them to go after other prey, as seen with the Shuvuuia: one Oviraptor was found with a lizard in its stomach, proving that the species was predatory after all (partially if not only).
  • In reality, Oviraptor was the prey of Velociraptor, as Velociraptor is thought to be the apex predator of the Djadochta Formation.
